The hardest part of this entire shoot from start to finish was to picking these images of Jodi & Samira. They looked absolutely stunning in every single frame. Their relaxed personalities and incredible bond made for an amazingly easy time photographing them. Jodi’s husband came with us on the shoot and seeing how in love this family is with each other is quite inspiring, it shows in the pictures. If you know Jodi personally you know that her smile is contagious and her witty banter makes for great fun. After the shoot we sat on the golf course let the girls run and just talked while the sun went down. This shoot was so special in so many different ways, but I think my favorite part was seeing how babywearing has helped create an amazing bond with a mother and daughter and of course ALL of Jodi’s amazing wraps. Those were just incredible!
Thank you Jodi and Samira for the wonderful opportunity to photograph you for this project!
Thank you to Erin Demos of A Confident Mom and Babywearing SCV for being the babywearing consultant for this series.
Getting to know Jodi & Samira’s babywearing lifestyle –
C. How did you discover “baby wearing” and how has it helped your family?
J. I baby wore when our teenagers were little. I had actually kept the same carrier from 15 years ago and thought I could simply use that. Little did I know….Babywearing helps us to bond, calm our youngest, allows me to get things done when my hands are free. I slow down, appreciate Samira’s point of view, enjoy the rhythm of her sweet little body as we move throughout our days. My husband uses his buckle carrier with her so he can run errands. I’ve come in a few times and seen my 16 year daughter wearing her baby sister.
C.What is your favorite “fun” thing to do while baby wearing?
J. My favorite fun thing to do while babywearing is sewing. I miss having the time to sew, but wrapping Samira for a nap allows me some creative me-time in a busy day.
C.What is in your “babywearing” closet?
J. What’s in my babywearing stash is a fair mix. I have all the Woven Wings droplets in every color. That was pretty fun and challenging to hunt down and collect. A few Lawilde wraps and a couple of Kokoro kitties that Samira picks to use often. I do have to admit that I am completely won over by Farideh and her hand woven wraps. Her artistry and work are an obvious labor of love that I was completely overwhelmed by the first wrap I received, I just stared at it for a long time without even touching it. We even have a baby blanket for Samira and it has Farideh’s signature evil eye sewn at the end. Sprinkle in a few ring slings that I couldn’t do without and a super fun Madame Googoo Jack Skellington & Sally carrier and that about covers it.
C. What is your favorite carrier and if it is a wrap what is your favorite wrapping style?!
J. My favorite wrap is the handwoven piece that you see in these photos that Corinna captured for us. It’s called Bangberry, woven by Farideh, and it practically glows. My favorite carry is a double hammock. I offer Samira choices of if to wrap or not, and front or back. So when she signs a front carry, we will wrap in a front wrap cross carry.
C. If you could give one piece of advice to someone new to babywearing what would it be?
J. Advice I would give to a new babywearing mama is to enjoy these moments and the experience of babywearing, attend a local meeting to get some help and ask any questions, as well as to meet amazing women from the babywearing world.
